03/04/22: Slow Contemplations and Quick Rhythms
Featuring Stephen Vitiello, Brendan Canty, Park Jiha, Miguel Noya, Marta Forsberg, and Kajsa Magnarsson
Hello and welcome to Keeping Score! This week I have four new releases. One schedule update: Keeping Score will be off next week. Now, let's dive in.
The Music
Something Rhythmic
American composers Stephen Vitiello and Brendan Canty released Stephen Vitiello with Brendan Canty. With a blend of drums and long drones, this is a really interesting and fun release.
Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.
Something Beautiful
Korean composer Park Jiha released The Gleam. Slow and contemplative, Jiha uses unique instruments such as the piri, saenghwang, yanggeum, and glockenspiel to create a really beautiful album, which she says is meant to breathe.
Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.
Something Atmospheric
Venezuelan composer Miguel Noya released Inner Bodies. Noya uses different key sounds, from synths to piano, to create lovely pieces, some relaxing and some some spacy.
Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.
Something Experimental
Swedish-Polish composer Marta Forsberg and Swedish composer Kajsa Magnarsson released Kompisitioner. Experimental and electronic, Forsberg and Magnarsson use unique sounds, repetition, and voice to create an album all its own. Vital Weekly writes:
For Kompisitioner they made thirteen small compositions from homey things, sound cuttings and crazy ideas that are more than once entertaining but also beautiful, compelling or very penetrating. The tracks don't sound complicated, but everything is fine and balanced with plenty of space for small stories in various languages, aliens and their sound, and thick synthesizer tunes.
